Crossing amber over sandy's green glaze is one of my favorite glaze combos. The amber on its own is the golden yellow transparent glaze you see at the top of this mug. Sandy's green is the green glaze at the bottom. And then a magical chemical reaction occurs in the middle that creates a deep burgundy color.
This color combination seemed like it would marry well with a mountain-scape so I decided to create this mug. I used wax resist to paint the mountain outline and growing moons. The amber glaze pooled at the lower vertices of the mountains and caused these large bleeding corners of burgundy.
