There are many ways to make handles. You can make them from a slab, you can roll out clay, and you can hand pull them from a ball of clay. I like to hand pull handles because of the natural grooves and edges that form in the process.
I first made this mug in 2016, but I never quite liked the way the glaze came out. It was initially zap blue over matte white in oxidation high fire, which is what you see in the first photos. Then in 2021 I decided to dip the top half of the mug in rutile pink and re-fire it in reduction. I love how rutile pink creates colorful highlights and moves with gravity. I'm not sure exactly why one side has more of a dripping effect, but it's fun that both sides are different!
