I used masking tapes of different thickness to create the pattern here before glazing the mug. The tape must be carefully pulled off once the glaze dries to prevent chipping the glaze. Unfortunately, a small crack formed on the bottom of this piece during trimming which happens when a mug is a little too dry. The crack goes through to the other side of the clay, which means this piece can't be used to hold liquids. It can be used as a planter or for holding non-liquids things.
