about mug 64

Sapphire is known to be one of the runniest glazes at the studio. I never use it because it is such a dark glaze and so runny. I decided to test it out on this little mug. Initially the entire mug was sapphire, but I wasn't so into the homogeneous result. Later I dipped the top half in rutile pink and re-fired in reduction. This created a subtle yet deep cosmic pink and purple effect where the rutile pink layered over the sapphire! I also like how there is a gradient effect occurring vertically.

Firing: Reduction high fire
