about mug 40

Similar to my elephant vase, I initially threw this pot intending to just make a simple mug. However, the curves that resulted seem to suggest the curves of cheeks. For some reason I felt the urge to sculpt a face with prominent wrinkles. I think I googled something like "old lady face" to find the image shown below. I might have spent an entire week working on creating the features of her face onto the mug.

I spray glazed the outside of this mug with a dilute solution of a brown glaze called hands full of earth. The inside of the mug is a glaze called O'pearl.

Firing: Oxidation Midfire

Clay: Bmix

Made with glazes at Bellevue College
